Mary Dempsey

Mary & BearMary has lived in Pembroke for 22 years and has cared for 2 dogs, Kelly who passed away in Sept. 05 and Bear an 11 year old golden retriever who she adopted in Jan 06 after his owner was forced to surrender him, at age 10, because of a move. Bear joined her husband, Frank, 3 teenagers and 7 cats (!). She has been a volunteer at Standish Humane in Duxbury for 3 years helping to feed, socialize and provide the general care of cats that have been rescued or surrendered. She had been pet sitting for neighbors and friends for 20 years when she heard about PPS and thought it would be a good fit...We are so lucky to have found her! The clients love her, the doggies love her, the kitties love her... we all do too!

Mary's references:

Bailey

Mary has been walking my dog, Bailey, for the past three years.  I had not met Mary when she first started walking him, since I was working.  One morning I was walking Bailey at Bay Farm, when Bailey took off after this woman I did not know.  He was so excited to see her and was wiggling all over with excitement.  I caught up to them and apologized to the woman who was walking with 2 other dogs.  She told me she was Mary!  The rest of our walk that morning, he stayed by her side and only checked in with me from time to time.  I  must say I was a little jealous, but it was a great feeling to see how much he loves her.  After his walks with her, he comes home happy and relaxed.  Mary sometimes reports on Bailey's walks with the other dogs.  She tells me about his behavior and sociability.  It is such a comfort to me to know that he is in such good hands.  I don't know what we would do without her!

Delilah

Mary has been walking my Jack Russell Terrier Delilah for almost 2 years now and I don’t know what I would do without her. I have had other dog walkers in the past and none could handle my dog. Not only does she have a lot of energy, but she also has only child (alpha dog) syndrome. Mary has been able to get my dog (who thinks she is a little person) to walk and play with other dogs without being temperamental. When Delilah comes home from her walk she is always tired out, which is great for me. Additionally, my schedule is constantly changing and Mary has never complained and has always been able to accommodate us. In the 2 years Mary has been walking my dog, I have seen a great improvement in her attitude and she is no longer destructive. Mary is without a doubt the best dog walker I have ever had (and I have had a lot) and Delilah absolutely loves her. I exceedingly recommend Mary to everyone.

Mitzi

Mary Dempsey has walked our dog Mitzi since January of 2006. Mary takes Mitzi to social hour 3 days a week. Mitzi is happy, tired and relaxed when I get home from work. Mitzi benefits from being able to socialize with other dogs.  We have also had Mary take our dog for sleepovers when we vacation. It is like a vacation for Mitzi as well. We return home to a very happy and pampered dog.

Mary cares about our dog. Mary will let us know if the dog is not feeling well or not behaving like herself. It puts my mind at ease to know that we have Mary to take care of Mitzi. When things come up and we need to change the schedule, Mary is always very accommodating. She is a pleasure to work with and we feel lucky to have her.

Sandy

Mary has been outstanding for the one and a half years we have known her, both in the way she takes care of our dog, and for the amount of time she spends with him and the other dogs she has in her care.  He receives critical exercise each day, and is better off for that.  Mary has also come to his rescue on numerous occasions us when our schedules prevented us from being home.  We have an ongoing and deep appreciation of her level of quality care and consideration for him.

Thanks,
