Ear Cropping: What's The Point?

When it comes to ear cropping, it can be a painful surgery. One reason for this kind of method is totally archaic. Too many times is the job botched because it is done by the breeder instead of a vet. Sometimes the ears won’t match, and/or may not heal correctly. They may even fail to stand as they should. Sometimes as a puppy ages, ears that seemed normal at the time of cropping, will become uneven and small on the adult dog's head. Some puppies might even bleed to death at the hands of inexperienced breeders trying to cut costs by doing their own cropping. There are also puppies who sustained permanent mental and physical damage because of poorly administered anesthetic.

Even if the surgery is given, a dog can actually have a “bad healing or carriage”, this can damage the puppy for demonstration purposes and ruin the look. Fashion for ladies are always changing. Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall brings differences in periods of modification of everyone’s individual taste. However, after a while we become used to ladies wearing boots, mini-skirts, long hair styles, or the latest sneakers available, and these things seem normal, and possibly attractive. And even if the practice of a dog’s ear cropping is diminished, it would only take a short time period to get used of the brand new look. In Europe ear cropping is no longer allowed for the past ninety years or so. Their dogs are just as attractive as in the states, even if in just a slightly different way. The natural ear of the Schnauzer is no more unattractive than that of the Fox Terrier, and breeders in those countries are spared the expense and the risk along with bother of cropping.

In America, breeds that have standards which require cropped ears are. Standards for Affenpinschers, and even Schnauzers are normally cropped ears. However, while the Staffordshire Terrier standard that a dog’s ears can be natural or it can be cropped. For Briard, the a dog’s ears are can be cropped in France. At least until 10 years ago …Bull Terrier’s, ear cropping was optional, then it was taken from the standard.

People who actually raise these types of breeds, tend to react to cropping a completely different way. Most people will feel that there is absolutely nothing they can do if they want to show their pets or even sell their pets. Some actually believe that if they do their own cropping and love the looking of cropped ears on their pet. So, is this actually your dog’s best interest at heart? Hopefully, this article has shed light on the subject matter.
